2018 Te Kano Rosé

Vintage

Spring and early Summer were extremely hot and dry. A late season period of cool weather slowed ripening, allowing additional time for flavour development in the weeks before harvest.

Vineyards

The Jerome and Eliza vineyards were chosen for this Rose, to capture the unique character of each site. The structural, driven character of Jerome contrasted perfectly with the vibrant fruit notes and generosity of Eliza, to deliver a wine that is serious and complex.

Varietal

100% Pinot Noir, clones 5 and 115.

Winemaking

100% hand harvested and whole bunch pressed. A long, cool fermentation in stainless steel was used to preserve freshness and aromatics.

2017 Te Kano Pinot Gris

Vintage

Spring and early Summer were cool and windy. A well timed and fortunate period of hot weather in late Summer carried the fruit through to maturity with excellent flavour development.

Vineyards

100% Jerome. The characteristic structure and bright fruit flavours of the Jerome vineyard are well suited to Pinot Gris. Naturally low in vigour, the sandy soils produce smaller than usual berries with intense flavours and a hint of phenolics, making for a structured and complex example of a classical varietal.

Varietal

100% Pinot Gris – clones 40A and Selection Ovaille.

Winemaking

100% hand harvested and whole bunch pressed. Slow and cool fermentation in stainless steel was used to retain the fresh varietal notes and clean finish.

2017 Te Kano Chardonnay

2017 Vintage

Spring and early summer were cool and windy. A well timed and fortunate period of hot weather in late summer carried the fruit through to maturity with excellent flavour development.

Vineyards

The Jerome vineyard is home to our Chardonnay. The wines made from this vineyard are defined by the devigourating influence of Jerome’s sandy soils. Small, intensely flavoured bunches ripen evenly on the North facing slopes, while the characteristic fine mineral acidity lends structure and finesse.

Varietal

100% Chardonnay, Mendoza clone.

Winemaking

Carefully selected and hand harvested fruit was whole bunch pressed to French oak barrels for fermentation. 10 months in barrel allowed mid palate complexity to build over time, while the use of partial malo-lactic fermentation has retained minerality and poise.

2017 Te Kano Pinot Noir

2017 Vintage

Spring and early Summer were cool and windy. A well timed and fortunate period of hot weather in late Summer carried the fruit through to maturity with excellent flavour development.

Vineyards

Fruit from the Jerome and Eliza vineyards have both contributed to this wine, each lending their unique character to the final blend. Jerome’s dark brooding tannins provide mid palate structure, while the supple plush characters typical of Eliza bring elegance and depth.

Varietal

100% Pinot Noir clones including 113, Abel, 5, 667 and 777.

Winemaking

Hand harvested fruit was 100% destemmed in the winery and batch fermented by vineyard and clone. Hand plunging and careful handling yielded wine with concentrated tannins, which developed and matured over the next 11 months in French oak. This wine is a barrel selection, and was bottled unfined and unfiltered to preserve it’s purity and finesse.
